Frequently asked questions
What is PHMAS?
The Philadelphia Historic Martial Arts Society's objective is to research, record, document, and preserve the contributions of martial artists and their impact on the community at large.
Can I be inducted?/How do I nominate someone?
The Hall of Fame is one way of recognizing the achievements and contributions of outstanding martial artists. Candidates must be nominated by a PHMAS: HOF alumni member. Only past inductees may nominate someone for induction. If you are interested in being nominated or nominating someone, contact John Crudup at songdokwan1@yahoo.com.
What are the requirements for an inductee nomination?
The general requirements for induction are 25 years of sustained martial arts excellence, notable achievements in martial arts and community service, and high moral character. Individuals with less than 25 years will be evaluated for induction on a case by case basis.
Do I or the inductee have to attend the banquet to be inducted?
We would prefer all inductees to be present for the event. We do not offer distance inductions. In the cases where the inductee cannot attend due to circumstances beyond their control, the member that nominated may accept on the inductees behalf. This is the exception, not the norm.
Do I have to come every year? Will I receive an award everytime I come?
Where is the banquet held?
How do I reserve my seat(s)/table?
